Every student has the right to read. For some students, learning to read happens with relative ease, but for many others, this is not the case. Through no fault of their own, some students struggle to connect sounds and letters, read unfamiliar words, or build fluency. For these students, effective instruction can make all the difference. When struggling readers have access to effective reading remediation delivered by a properly trained reading remediation instructor, almost all of them are able to learn to read. The truth is that less than 1% of people are unable to learn to read. If almost all students can overcome their struggles with literacy, then why are there so many kids who are suffering from reading failure? The answer is that we need more instructors who are properly trained to deliver effective reading remediation, in the form of a proven reading remediation program.
That’s why I’m excited to offer the Flying Cat Academy Reading Remediation Instructor Training Program—a 100% free, 100% online course designed to help educators develop the knowledge, skills, and resources they need to provide effective reading remediation.
This self-paced 6 week course is for educators who want to understand how students learn to read, why some students struggle, and how to administer an effective reading remediation program. Throughout the course, you’ll learn how to use the Orton-Gillingham Method and evidence-based strategies to provide structured, explicit reading instruction that meets students where they are and helps them move forward.
Having the right knowledge is only part of the equation, teachers needs to have resources. For this reason, the course includes 100% free resources to support you in putting what you learn into practice. My goal is to make effective reading remediation more accessible to educators so that more students can receive the targeted support they need—without cost being a barrier.
The course runs September 14–October 26. It is completely online, which gives you the flexibility to work through the training while balancing the other parts of your life. Whether you are a classroom teacher, learning support teacher, tutor, parent, or another educator supporting students with reading, this course will give you the skills and resources that you need to be able to deliver effective reading remediation.
